LIEKKI’s unique and proprietary Direct Nanoparticle Deposition (DND) technology provides single step deposition of extremely highly doped erbium (Er) and ytterbium (Yb) preforms. The nanoparticles of the DND technology mitigate the onset of clustering and related effects such as photodarkening in LIEKKI ytterbium fibers.
LIEKKI typically uses an aluminosilicate glass host to achieve very high concentrations of rare earth-ions, for example 15.000 ppm weight for Yb2O3 (typical preform used for standard LIEKKI Yb-products). The process is applicable to custom designs, such as extreme core-to-clad ratios, other dopants, as well as other glass hosts, such as phophosilicate. The DND technology is also particularly suitable and cost effective for tailoring both the refractive index and the doping profiles.
In addition to conventional round performs, LIEKKI’s DND technology and a unique glass works process allow the manufacturing of non-circular shapes, such as rectangular core and/or cladding preforms.
LIEKKI also offers unique capabilities in manufacturing boron rods for polarization maintaining (PM) fibers. The rods are available with of a variety of boron concentrations and dimension.
